New mayor elected for Newtown

Newtown has a new mayor with Cllr David Selby elected by councillors at Newtown Town Council's annual meeting.

Cllr Selby, a Liberal Democrat who is also a Powys county councillor representing the Newtown Central ward, takes over the mayor's duties from Cllr Sue Newham.

The town council has taken on more responsibilities in recent years from Powys County Council and is involved in the major Going Green project to bring more land into recreational use in the town.

Cllr Selby's term of office is for one year.
