The theme of the next talk at Newtown Astronomy Society is 'When Galaxies Collide."

Dr Megan Argo FRAS, a professional astrophysicist, freelance science communicator and a lecturer in astronomy at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, where she studies galaxies in the nearby universe with radio telescopes, is the guest speaker.

She has worked as a scientist in the UK, Australia and the Netherlands, and been lucky enough to observe with some of the best radio telescopes around the world, in Europe, India, the USA and Australia.

She is a Fellow and member of the Council of the Royal Astronomical Society, on the organising committee for IAU Commission C2 Communicating Astronomy with the Public, a member of the Institute of Physics, president of Shropshire Astronomical Society, an honorary member of Macclesfield Astronomical Society, on the Council of the International Meteor
Organisation, and an editor for the IMO’s journal, WGN.

The meeting takes place at The Crypt in Newtown Catholic Church at 7pm on 8 June.

Full membership fees are £20 per annum (10 meetings per year), with visitor fees at £3.50 per meeting.

Light refreshments are available during the meeting, with raffle prizes up for grabs during the main break and a monthly “sky update” feature by Tony Cook of Aberystwyth University brings the meeting to a close.
