Police cadets get a taste of court

14/04/2019 @ 11:09

Police cadets in Newtown are getting set to go on trial in court.

But the group will be playing the parts of suspect, police, solicitors and magistrates as part of a learning programme.

Volunteer cadets are taking part in the magistrates in the community programme, which teaches them about the 900-year history of the role.

They welcomed three Welshpool magistrates to a parade night, where they were able to ask questions, before being challenged to a quiz to test their knowledge and judgement.

They explored the severity of different offences, and interpreted sentencing guidelines to produce a fair judgement.

As part of the programme, they will also visit court to take part in a mock trial, playing key roles in the court process.

If there are any schools, clubs, societies or groups that may like to arrange something similar with the Magistrates, then they can leave a message for Rebecca on 01938 555968 or email welshpoolmagscrt@justice.gov.uk
