One of Newtown’s biggest retailers has come under the microscope this week as last year’s national recession continues to bite locally.
Earlier this week, rumours reached the mynewtown news desk that Focus DIY was facing difficulties and it is believed around 20 local jobs are under threat.
The cash-strapped company, which has 4,000 employees nationally, said: “To protect the interests of creditors, Focus directors have no choice but to seek protection through filing a notice of intention to appoint administrators. We are keeping our staff informed.”
It leaves Newtown staff in limbo and waiting to see whether that will mean job losses or, worse, stores closures.
