Pupils meals at schools in Newtown will be going up by 15p a day.
Parents will be expected to cough up the extra cost from 1 April, it has been confirmed.
Letters from Powys County Council have gone out to “customers” throughout the county informing them of the increase to £2.45 per meal, a rise of about 6.5%.
This was agreed as part of the budget that will see householders pay a whopping 9.5% extra in council tax from next month.
The letter states: “I am writing to advise you that following the Council’s budget meeting on 7 March 2019, Council members have agreed to the cabinet’s decision to increase the school meal price from 1
“Our current charge for a meal of the day is £2.30, please be advised that this will increase by 15p to £2.45 per meal.”
The letter ends by thanking for “your continued support of the catering service”.
