A Llandyssil environmentalist has been recognised at a national awards ceremony by the Climate Coalition.

Jeremy Thorp had been nominated for the ‘Individual Inspiration’ award at the Green Heart Heroes Awards.

Glyn Davies, MP for Montgomeryshire, this joined over 40 parliamentary colleagues in celebrating the efforts of those who are working to tackle climate change across the UK and congratulated Mr Thorp.

The awards recognise individuals, green schools, businesses, MPs, sustainable sports projects and overseas schemes in their efforts to create a future where the UK no longer contributes to climate change.

Mr Thorp is a board member of Community Energy Wales and works for Sharenergy, and is also a member of the Mid Wales Area committee of the Co-operative Group. Amongst his many notable achievements, Jeremy has led the project for the development of a 100kW hydro scheme near Newtown, on the River Severn.

Mr Davies said: “It is very inspiring to see the actions of others – from local individuals, to primary schools and to football clubs- all of which are taking the fight to tackle climate change into their own hands. The Green Heart Hero awards rightly recognise the achievements of those individuals and organisations who are working towards a cleaner future.

“I was particularly happy to see Llandyssil resident Jeremy Thorp nominated for the Individual Inspiration award. Jeremy is a pragmatic environmentalist and is well known within Montgomeryshire for everything from organising litter picks, hiring out and mending bikes, as well as his professional community energy, works with the Robert Owen Renewables Co-operative and the Lightfoot organisation, amongst others.

“Congratulations to Jeremy for putting Montgomeryshire’s efforts to achieve a net zero emissions target by 2050 on the map.”
