Power failure closes school

A power failure has closed Newtown High School.

It is understood attempts early today were made to restore electricity to the campus, but these failed and students were told not to attend.

In a Tweet, the school said: "Due to an unforeseen power failure on the Newtown campus of Newtown High School, the school will be closed today. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. We have been endeavouring to get power restored, but this will not be possible by 9am."

It is understood the school plans to be open on Wednesday.
