Rehearsals in full swing for latest musical production

Rehearsals are in full swing for Newtown Musical Theatre Company’s spring production of the Rogers and Hammerstein classic, The Sound of Music.

The show tells the story of Maria, played by Josephine Catherwood, a sunny, yet out-of-place nun who finds an unexpected life as the governess to the seven children of Captain Von Trapp, played by Craig Harris. But that new life is soon threatened by the growing reach of the Third Reich.

Many new faces have joined the company for this production, which organisers say promises to be a "wonderful evening of family fun, filled with songs that everyone knows by heart."

“Everyone knows The Sound of Music,” said Les Skilton, NMTC’s Chairman. “We’re honoured to bring it to Newtown.”

“Musicals don’t get more timeless or more beloved than this one,” said director Kristen Roach. “It’s a beautiful, true story about a family coming together just as the world is about to fall apart.”

You can catch this iconic show Thursday, 4 April at 7.30pm, Friday, 5 April at 7.30pm and Saturday, 6 April at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

The Saturday 2.30pm matinee will be signed by BSL signer Cheryl Walker, returning for her second show with NMTC.

Tickets are on sale now at the Theatr Hafren box office.

You can to their website, www.thehafren.co.uk or call 01686 614555. For more information on NMTC, visit their website at www.newtownmtc.co.uk.
