Power campaigners continue action this week

Campaigners against the planned power hub and pylons are urging residents and those against the plans to support their ongoing campaign this week as the Assembly elections take place on Wednesday.

Action group STOP is holding a public meeting at Berriew Village Hall on Tuesday night at 7pm, while the Montgomeryshire Assembly Husting, attended by each of the National Assembly canddiates for the constituency, takes place at Meifod Village Hall on the eve of the elections on Wednesday night at 7.30pm. While the hustings will discuss a wide range of issues, STOP campaigners have urged people to attend in order to demonstrate their concerns over the power plans to each of the political candidates.

The group is against proposals by the National Grid and Scottish Power to place massive power line cables and pylons across the Montgomeryshire landscape to take power generated by existing and future windfarms to a hub at either Cefn Coch, near Llanfair Caereinion, or Abermule, near Newtown, and on to the National Grid in Shropshire.

Meanwhile on Saturdays' the 7th and 14th May, banner and letter writing sessions will be taking place at Kerry Village Hall between 12noon and 4pm. The group is seeking volunteers to help make-up banners and write letters as part of the campaign and before the 'march on Cardiff' to protest against the plans.

"Volunteers still needed to help with these days please and to leaflet the area this week to inform residents of the event. It is vital that as many people as possible  write letters to attach to feedback forms to show the level of objection to these plans and the poor consultation," said a spokesperson for the STOP group.
