Newtown ended its May Day Bank Holiday weekend on a slightly higher note than it started with a successful history and fun day in the town yesterday (Sunday).
The day, which saw hundreds attend an event to celebrate the history of the town and enjoy themselves with a range of family-orientated activities, followed crticism of the Royal Wedding party staged in Broad Street on Friday evening. Many visitors criticised the event for not being family-orientated and lacking attractions.
However, in contrast, yesterday's history and fun day in the town Park and Back Lane car park area was described as a success with crowds packing the area to see stands, history re-enactments, entertainment, talks and free-runners.
One visitor, Melisa Jones, commented on the MyNewtown Facebook page: "Been down, had a wander around and enjoyed it. Liked all the different tents of the olden days in the wooded area. All the people dressed up was very good."
