Re-register on social housing list or risk losing your place

Residents in Newtown on Powys County Council's social housing list risk losing their place if they fail to register on a new online register by 31 March, it has emerged.

MyNewtown reported yesterday how the council has stopped taking applications through the conventional housing list system until a new web-based system is launched.

It also said anyone already on the list would have to re-apply on the online version. This applies to anyone in Powys.

In response to questions from MyNewtown, the council has confirmed that anyone already on the list and who fails to re-register online by 31 March will lose their place on it.

A council spokesperson said: "It’s important that those currently on the waiting list re-register before 31 March. If they do this, then they will keep the existing date that they applied for housing.

"We will be sending letters to existing applicants shortly informing them of the importance to re-register.  If they re-register from 1 April onwards, then their application date will be the date they applied online."

Asked about those without access to the internet, the spokesperson added: "If someone does not have internet access, we would encourage them to ask a friend, family member or support worker to assist them with this process.

"However, if they do not have anyone who can assist them, then they can contact Housing One on 01597 827 464 and an appointment will be made for an officer to assist them in completing the application."
