Newtown High School has received the award for 'most transparent council' from the School Council Wales.

The award comes in following the latest annual school council survey for the academic year 2017/2018.

"School Council Wales were impressed with the level of detail published online about the business and individual votes of the school Student Assembly, showing students who voted for what and increasing transparency," said Richard Williams, Clerk to the Newtown High School Student Assembly.

"It is fantastic to receive recognition for our award-winning Student Assembly. Having won the best school council in Wales award from ASCL Cymru in 2017, our latest award from School Council Wales highlights our ongoing commitment to pupil participation and students being involved in their own school community."

Mike Davies, Survey Coordinator for School Council Wales said: "Congratulations to Newtown High School who really impressed us with their innovative ways of keeping students up to date with the work of their School Council, including recording each vote which increases transparency and participation and prepares students for the wider world of local and national democracy."
