With the good news confirmed that the Newtown bypass will open next week it has also been confirmed that a blitz on roadworks in the town itself will get underway over the next few months after being held back.
Utility companies, such as gas, electricity and communications, have been stopped from undertaking work on roads through the town centre and other parts while work was completed on the bypass.
And while congestion is expected to be dramatically cut when the bypass opens on the 14 February, a planned blitz of roadworks are expected to start soon after to allow repairs and maintenance to underground pipes, cables and mains services around the town.
Work is also expected on various pinch points in the town as part of the "de-trunking" of the A483 through the town. The bypass will now become the main trunk road with Pool Road, New Road and Llanidloes Road being downgraded and taken over by Powys County Council.
