Mixed categorisation for local schools in latest report

03/02/2019 @ 10:23

The annual Welsh Government colour coding of schools has highlighted a mixed grading for schools in the local area, although many have improved in the rankings.

The National School Categorisation System grades all primary, secondary and special schools in one of four colours - green, yellow, amber and red - showing what level of support they need.

Green is for schools receiving up to four days of support and needing the least support; yellow is for schools receiving up to 10 days of support; amber is for up to 15 days support and red is up to 25 days and need the most intensive support.

They also take into account how schools are managed and the quality of learning and teaching.

Many local schools were categorised as green and have moved up from yellow, showing improvement, while many are in yellow and amber. No schools in the Newtown area were categorised as red.

Newtown High School remains in amber, while Llanidloes High School has dropped from green to yellow.

Many schools improved from yellow to green, including Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Hafren, Ladywell Green, Llandinam Carno and Llanfair Caereinion primary schools.
