More than £500,000 of work is taking place at Newtown's Ladywell Shopping Centre.
Workers have started preparing the roof on the former Co-Op store.
The centre was acquired by EvaBuild last year after being up for sale for some time.
It is understood the renovation work will take up to eight months as part of an overall investment in the site by the construction and development company which is based at St David's House in Newtown.
Nick Evans, managing director of EvaBuild, is reported saying a potential business is interested in taking on a lease and up to 100 jobs could be created at the centre in total.
