Dedicated canoe access points to be set up on the river

11/01/2019 @ 03:16

Four access points are to be set up along the River Severn in Newtown for canoeists to access the water as part of the ongoing Open Newtown project.

Councillors are expected to give the green light to the planning application that will see the access points established near Vaynor, Back Lane car park and the Gravel car park.

The sites will be made up of compacted crushed stone with a concrete base, timber steps, handrail and runners, as well as a small section of new gravel path to join the exiting pathway.

The application is made by Stuart Owen on behalf of Open Newtown, a project that has received over £1million of National Lottery funding to create and open up spaces around Newtown for recreational and social use.

Planners have recommended approval and the application will be considered on Thursday by councillors along with a number of other planning applications by the group.
