Newtown residents are being reminded they can still donate shoeboxes of items for elderly and vulnerable people being supported by a care provider in the area.
Abacare, which has offices in Newtown, is running the shoebox appeal for its service users who may not be able to get outside to pick up essentials during the festive season.
Jane Jones, Branch Manager at Abacare, said: “We’ve already had a great response to our shoebox appeal and have been inundated with boxes, but if anyone out there has been meaning to put one together, then this is your final reminder as the deadline of Friday, December 14 is fast approaching.
“We’re asking people to fill a shoebox with essentials and other bits and pieces that they think would really help brighten someone’s day. We would suggest hats, scarves, slippers, toiletries, books and something a bit more festive and fun for Christmas.
“All of the boxes donated will be evenly distributed among our elderly service users and we’re sure it will really help brighten their day.”
Any shoeboxes can be dropped off or sent to
Jane added: “We think this is a really great way to treat our service users and we hope lots of people get involved.
“People who take part in our shoebox appeal are the types of caring, honest, reliable and good-natured people we want working for us. They have a natural affinity to care and we would encourage them to consider taking on a position in the industry with us or even just working a few hours per week to help an elderly person in their home."
