An “astronomical” bring-and-buy sale will take place next week in Newtown.

The Newtown Astronomical Society is hosting the event at its next meeting on 8 December which will include a Christmas social.

The event will take place at The Crypt in Newtown Catholic Church.

“Members will be bringing along to the sale any astro related items they no longer have use for, with 10% of profits going to NA Society funds,” said Les Fry, secretary of the society.

“Those with nothing to sell are encouraged to bring their wallets and join in the Xmas social side of the evening, which will also include an astronomy quiz for fun.

“Tony Cook will conclude the evening with his usual ‘What's On’ round up of events for December and members observations photo gallery.”

For its new 2018-2019 season, the society has  a wide-ranging spectrum of talks already lined up such as “Transient Lunar Phenomena,” “Jupiter’s Moons” and “Solar & Lunar Imaging.”

“Our society extends a warm welcome to all those interested in any aspect of astronomy at any level and at any age,” added Les.

Full membership fees are just £20 per annum (10 meetings per year), with visitor fees at £3.50 per meeting.

Light refreshments are available during the meeting, with raffle prizes up for grabs during the main break, and a monthly “sky update” feature by Tony Cook of Aberystwyth University to bring the meeting to a close.

“If you have a telescope or binoculars that don't seem to work as you think they should, the "instructions" seem unfathomable or you simply need some advice on your scope, bring it along and we'll see what we can do to assist you,” said Les.
