Newtown councillor joins Brexit vote protestors in London

A Newtown county councillor demonstrated his support for a People's Vote on Brexit by attending last weekend's protest in London.

Cllr David Selby said he was concerned damage would be caused to the north Powys area as a result of Brexit.

It comes a week after Powys councillors voted against supporting a People's Vote.

“This was one occasion when I felt I had to be there. So much harm will be caused to our area if the current Government proposals go ahead," he said.

"In answer to those who tell me that we have already had a vote I say we have not had a chance to have a vote on what is actually proposed when leaving the EU. Many of the promises made in the original vote were either lies or wrong. A People’s Vote would be a real chance to decide.”

Jane  Dodds, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and Cllr David Selby were joined by other Montgomeryshire Liberal Democrats and thousands of people from Wales.

“There was a great atmosphere as we brought the centre of London to a standstill with our demand for the people to have the say on the final deal agreed on Brexit,” said Jane Dodds.
