An appeal for the public to attend the funeral of a 90-year-old Newtown Royal Marine veteran who has died without a family has attracted attention from all parts of the country.

Carers at Plas Cae Crin and funeral directors Leach and Son had asked for help attracting people to the funeral of David McLaren Kerr who died at the care home on 7 September.

Today the appeal spread online and through social media, building up as this evening progressed.

His funeral will take place on Tuesday (16 Oct) at 1.15pm at Emstrey Crematorium in Shrewsbury.

While a number of people who worked at the home or had a working relationship with Mr Kerr, an appeal went out for more to attend.

The chairman of the Shrewsbury branch of the Royal British Legion, Kevin Dempsey, has confirmed he will be attending.

It is understood a number from the Newtown branch of the RBL are also attending.

Mr McLaren Kerr's wife died and his daughter died in 2013.
