A man has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in Newtown last night (Monday).
The incident happened on the canal path behind Canal Road.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remains in police custody.
Officers are now appealing to anyone who was walking along that path between
Detective Sergeant Andy Evans said: “A man is in custody helping us with our enquiries but we need to build a clearer picture of what happened.
“We know this path is popular with walkers, dog walkers and joggers and are appealing for anyone who was there between
“We are treating this extremely seriously. The victim is being supported by specialists.
“Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence today, as specialist search teams and house-to-house officers carry out their investigations.”
