Plans to boost town tourism after bypass is opened

17/09/2018 @ 08:16

With just months until the Newtown bypass is opened, work is underway to help attract tourists and more tourism into the town and surrounding area once the town’s bypass is opened.

Newtown Town Council is to host an event next month where interested parties and individuals can help input into plans to attract more people into the town.

The event will take place at the town council’s chamber at Brisco House on Wednesday, 3 October, although people will have to book a place in advance for one of the sessions.

Between 1.30pm and 4.30pm a structured session will take place. Places for this will need to be booked.

Between 6pm and 8pm a drop-in event will take place.

“The arrival of the bypass brings a freedom to the town, enabling us to proactively bring Newtown to the forefront, through developing great tourism products and linking into national/regional activity,” said the town council.

“Taking inspiration from what already exists we will be looking at the opportunities for developing the town's tourism, to ensure we’re making the most of the regions growing visitor numbers. What do we have? What do we want?

"If you want to help shape the future of our tourism please come along."

The town council said raising the tourism profile of Newtown will require a focused programme of activity and willingness "for us all to work together."

The event is open to all who operate within the tourism sector who wish to promote Newtown and everything it has to offer:

business
tourism groups
and those with a community focus with an interest in tourism
