Powys County Council is to use this weekend’s Newtown Food Festival to ask people what their views are on affordable housing in the town.

Officers from Powys County Council’s housing service will be at the festival on Saturday and Sunday.

The council is looking to re-develop the former Red Dragon site in Maesyrhandir for affordable housing.

Cllr James Evans, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are committed to developing 250 additional homes over the next five years that meet the needs of the local communities across Powys.

“Our Housing Service is working in communities throughout Powys to identify sites suitable for housing. Their work has seen us purchase the Red Dragon pub on Plantation Lane and we intend to build affordable housing on this site.

“By attending Newtown Food Festival, we can then speak to residents directly to establish the housing need in the area.”
