The Mayors of Newtown and Llanfyllin have both praised the work of the Severn Rivers Trust in their respective communities.
The Mayor of Newtown, Cllr Sue Newham, and Llanfyllin Mayor, Cllr Simon Baynesmet with Lisa Barlow and Dewi Morris of the Severn Rivers Trust at the recent Llanfyllin Show. They were particularly interested in the Trust’s work on sustainable drainage schemes to alleviate flooding.
Lisa Barlow of the Trust said: “The Severn Rivers Trust are promoting the installation of 'Rain Gardens' or sustainable drainage schemes to reduce flooding and river pollution.
"The model house shown on our stand at the Llanfyllin Show has been taken to local schools, including Llanfyllin High School where pupils have been involved in the design of a scheme and Meifod Primary school where children helped to plant a rain garden.”
Cllr Sue Newham, Mayor of Newtown, said: “The Severn Rivers Trust do a great job and it was good to catch up with them on their stand at the Llanfyllin Show. I really enjoyed coming to the Show and really wished I could have stayed longer. There was so much going on. What a great event for local people and visitors!”
Cllr Simon Baynes, Mayor of Llanfyllin, said: “The Trust is very active in Llanfyllin and has had considerable success in improving the flow of the River Cain and helping environmental groups and activities in the Bodfach Field and elsewhere in the town.”
