Forecourt & Convenience Store Manager

Bradleys Garage (Newtown) Ltd is a family run business.  The company currently operates three Texaco petrol stations with Costcutter convenience stores, one with a Subway franchise, and one stand-alone Costcutter convenience store.  All sites are operated in Mid Wales Newtown, Caersws, Llanidloes and Guilsfield.  The company also operates a Peugeot franchise and provides School Transport services to the local council.

The company is currently undertaking a major redevelopment of their site in Caersws, creating a much larger, modern convenience store to provide services to the local village and passing trade.  Works have begun and should be completed by spring 2019.

The company is currently looking to recruit a Forecourt & Convenience Store Manager to operate its new store in Caersws.  The successful candidate will work along-side the General Manager and Directors of the company.

You will have the overall responsibility and operations of this site.  

You will drive your team to exceed all customer expectations through your passion and desire for providing our customers with a great customer experience.  You will lead from the front, be a real ‘hands on’ manager and take control of the development of your team.

Main Duties would be:

·         Wet & Dry Stock

·         Manage fuel ordering (Wet Stock).  Monitor fuel stocks and order when required ensuring no dry or over stocks.

·         Manage the ordering of shop goods which includes ambient, alcohol, chill and freeze stock.  Maintain appropriate levels of stock for the business to run effectively.  

·         Adhere to company policy on ordering to the stores agreed product range.

·         Meeting minimum ordering requirements and deadlines.

·         Pricing

·         Maintain up to date pricing on fuel and shop goods, adhering to company pricing policies and Trading Standards legal requirements.

·         Deliveries

·         Ensure all deliveries are checked against delivery notes and any discrepancies/damages are dealt with correctly and in a timely manager.

·         Ensure all deliveries are dealt with appropriately and efficiently.  Maintaining all legal requirements outlined by Environmental Health.

·         Promotional Activity

·         Carry out ordering of promotional items, the range chosen by the General Manager, maintaining appropriate stock levels throughout the promotional period.  

·         Effectively display promotions utilising the provided point of sale.

·         Promptly inform management of any promotional issues that may arise.

·         Store standards

·         Maintain high store standards at all times, including cleanliness and hygiene.

·         Customer Service

·         Coach your team to maintain excellent customer service.

·         Daily Reconciliation

·         Carry out or oversee daily reconciliation. Investigate any issues highlighted and report to management where necessary.

·         Purchase Ledger

·         Enter or oversee entry of all purchase invoice and credit notes.

·         Managing Staff

·         Effectively manage the team.

·         Organise shifts, arrange cover for holiday entitlement and sickness or where additional staff are required for orders and deliveries.

·         Maintain training requirements and other HR matters.

·         Suppliers

·         Communicate with suppliers about new products, issues, or requirements and, where necessary, involve the General Manager.

·         Pass on relevant/important information.

·         Control Costs and Expenditures

·         Authorise and control additional costs to the department.  Make sure appropriate quotes are obtained and value for money is obtained.

·         Seek authority from the General Manager or Directors on higher value items/costs.

·         Maintain Health & Safety policies and procedures

·         Ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered too.

·         Maintain training records and all other paperwork required to ensure safety of your team and customers at all times.

·         Maintain Environmental Health procedures

·         Ensure all Environmental Health policies and procedures are adhered to.  Maintain training records all other paperwork required to provide safe products to our customers. Ensure all staff are aware of their responsibilities.

·         Equipment and systems

·         Have a clear understanding of the equipment and systems on site, gaining an in-depth knowledge of which supplier and maintenance companies are used.

·         Regularly check that all equipment is in good and working order. Rectify problems in a timely manner.

·         Ensure all safety and legal requirements are met.

·         Ensure all staff are aware of and gain an understanding of all relevant equipment and systems.

·         Improving the forecourt and convenience store

·         The forecourt manager is encouraged at all times to suggest improvements to products and services offered.  Ordering, sales opportunities and staffing to ensure growth in sales and profitability of the site.

·         Suggestions should be passed to the General Manager/Directors for consideration.

Essential Skills

Experience in management within a customer service environment.

Leadership and ability to motivate, coach and develop.

Fully conversant with M.S office packages.

Excellent communication and planning skills.

Decision Making.

Personal Qualities







Desirable Skills

Experience in petrol retail or the convenience industry.

Training to be provided.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training on all in-house systems and procedures.

Benefits and remuneration package

Starting salary from £18,000-£21,000 dependent on experience.

This will be reviewed annually.
