Residents in the area are being warned to be on alert after four men entered a property occupied by two elderly people during what police believe was an attempted burglary.
While the incident happened at Llangyniew, police have urged anyone living in rural areas near Newtown and north Powys to be on the alert for any suspicious activity.
The four men are understood to have entered the house on Wednesday and were spotted in a dark BMW vehicle between 1pm and 5pm.
"It is believed that four men entered and conducted a search of the property, frightening the two elderly occupants," said a Dyfed Powys Police spokesperson.
"If you saw anyone acting suspiciously or a suspicious vehicle in the area between 1pm and 5pm, Wednesday, 15 August please contact the police.
"We are especially interested in getting information on a dark BMW vehicle believed to be in the area during the times stated."
Information can be given to Dyfed-Powys Police by phoning 101.
