More than 1,200 were at Newtown Police Station on Thursday. But they hadn't done anything wrong, it was part of the force's open day.

They were greeted by Newtown police officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) as well as partners from other emergency services and organisations that all work together to keep Newtown safe.

The open day was an opportunity to showcase policing in Powys and give people a behind the scenes look at what goes on, which included a tour of police vehicles and being able to experience the inside of a police cell, without being arrested.

Members of the public also got to meet their local officers and had the opportunity to voice any crime or anti-social behaviour concerns they had about their community.

Police Sergeant Adele Pitt said: “I am very grateful to all partner agencies who joined our police teams in showcasing the work we do together, to keep our communities safe.  A big thank you to all the visitors who attended and took part in the activities on offer.  We look forward to doing it again next year.”

Chief Inspector Rhiannon Ivens said “I was delighted with the event. Our partners and stakeholders made a huge contribution and the feedback from our visitors was outstanding.

"I am also very proud of our officers and staff and our extended police family, the cadets and the special constabulary who were involved. They worked extremely hard leading up to the event and during the day itself, they gave one hundred per cent to make it such a success.

"It was also wonderful to meet a lot of officers and staff attending with their own families and children and to hear how they also took away a lot from the opportunity.

"Our families are often there when we can’t be, keeping things going at home and making sacrifices so we can give our absolute best to keeping Powys safe and so it was great to be able give back to them in some small way.”
