Businesses in Newtown are being urged to comment on plans to boost the region's economy.

The Growing Mid Wales Partnership, an amalgamation of public, private and voluntary sector organisations set up to strengthen the region’s economy, has commissioned consultants to help develop an economic action plan for Mid Wales.

This follows from the publication of the Welsh Government’s new economic action plan and the announcement of a potential Growth Deal for Mid Wales in the autumn budget.

The Partnership is asking businesses for views on issues such as digital connectivity, business support, transport infrastructure and skills, to identify opportunities for growth in the region.

Chair of the Growing Mid Wales Partnership Cllr Rosemarie Harris Leader of Powys County Council said; ”A Growth Deal for Mid Wales is a major opportunity for the region that will require the full support and participation of the private sector.  Proposals must be transformational focusing on innovation and unlocking the barriers to growth for local businesses and new investment.

“The work being undertaken will set out a clear vision and direction for the regional economy.   The voice of the Mid Wales business community is vital in informing the economic plan. We are very keen to speak to a wide cross-section of business leaders within the region that could help shape and influence future growth.”

The economic action plan will look to develop a programme of strategic projects and investments that will help transform the Mid Wales economy and support growth over the next 15 years.  It is anticipated that the projects will be delivered through a range of funding sources including the potential Growth Deal for Mid Wales.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Vice-Chair of the Growing Mid Wales Partnership and Leader of Ceredigion County Council said, “Businesses and organisations are key in developing the region’s economy and boosting growth.

"This is their time to have their say on opportunities for growth in the region and we look forward to hearing their views. This will input into the action plan currently being prepared by the Growing Mid Wales Partnership to help drive economic growth in Mid Wales over the next 15 years.”

Businesses and organisations can take part in the online survey using the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/6NTG8Z7

The study will conclude in the autumn with the preparation of a prioritised economic action plan for Mid Wales.
