A celebration of students work at Newtown High School has taken place during the annual presentation evening.

The evening was attended by the Mayor of Newtown, Cllr Sue Newham, and over 100 award recipients and their families.

This year also saw two awards sponsored by the local community with EOM Ltd sponsoring the Headteacher's Award and Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council sponsoring the Young Leader's Award.

Mayor of Newtown, Cllr Sue Newham said: "I was delighted to present the Young Leader award to Shannon Conlan on behalf of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.

"The Council has recently appointed two council Youth Representatives to be the voice of young people on the Council, so the award fits well with our desire to include and empower young people.

"As a Town Council, we want to encourage the young people of Newtown to dream big dreams for our community and our country. Good leadership is badly needed in our world to tackle some very real and significant global challenges.

"Congratulations to Shannon on all she has done to merit this award. I am sure we will be hearing more about this remarkable young woman in the coming years."

The evening also featured performances from Lily Underhill, Tilly Jordan and Jovi Bryant.
