Fancy trying out your singing ability? Newtown and District Male Voice Choir are on the look out for new choristers.

Coming to the end of a successful year, which has included performing at Ludlow Races, taking part in a sell-out St David’s Day Concert at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn, singing with Welsh legend Dafydd Iwan at the Monty Club, and a very successful concert with Shân Cothi, Rhys Meirion and Aled Wyn Davies at Newtown’s Baptist Chapel, the choir is now preparing for next season.

The choir has also appointed a new musical team, with Sarah Astley-Davies taking up the baton as Musical Director, and Greg Jenkins taking the role of Accompanist.

A recruitment evening will be held in the Monty Club, Newtown from 7.30pm – 9.30pm on Tuesday 17th July to give anyone interested in joining the opportunity to find out more about the choir.

"This will be an informal evening, where prospective members can come along and meet the choir, have a few drinks and join in with some singing," said Jonathan Davies, a member of the choir.

"You don’t need to have previous experience of singing in order to join – many of the choir’s current members had never sung in a choir before joining Newtown and District Male Voice Choir.

"Joining a choir is an excellent way to widen your circle of friends and have lots of fun, and singing has been proven to have many health benefits – it strengthens the immune system, improves your posture, helps with sleep, lowers stress levels and improves mental alertness. So, why not give it a go?"

The choir rehearses every Tuesday evening between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at the Royal Welsh Warehouse in Newtown (the Pryce Jones building).

Prospective new members are invited to attend.
