A 70th birthday celebration of the NHS is to be held in Newtown next month.

On the 14 July, from 1pm to 5 pm, an event will be held at the Town Hall park grounds to celebrate the NHS, organised by the Montgomeryshire Labour Party.

"The NHS was founded in Wales and for 70 years it has been very close to the public’s heart. It has been there for us at some of the hardest times and some of the happiest times in our lives," said a spokesperson.
"This is an event with live music, stalls, speakers, bunting, balloons and birthday cake.

"We invite you to bring a picnic, bring the family and spend an afternoon celebrating together. We have stalls from healthcare organisations and a stall which will tell you all about the history of the NHS."

The event will include children’s NHS fancy dress, face painting and games.

"We also want you to ‘Take Part in Some Art’ and tell us what the NHS means to you. We particularly welcome NHS workers and their families.

"We want to tell you all how much the work you do every day means to all of us and what a difference you make," added the spokesperson.

"We think the NHS is worth celebrating. For 70 years we have not had to worry about whether we have enough money in the family purse when a child is sick, when a parent becomes ill or when we give birth."
