A Newtown mother and daughter will be putting on their walking boots to take on the Rotary Across Wales Challenge on Saturday to raise money in memory of a family member who was born with a life-limiting condition.
Llinos Hughes and her daughter, Ceri Davies, decided to tackle the gruelling 42-mile walk from the Dyfi estuary near Machynlleth to the Anchor, near Kerry on June 23 to remember Ceri’s late cousin, James Williams, who would have been celebrating his 18th birthday this month.
James and his family received support from Hope House children’s hospice up until his death at just two months old, so Llinos and Ceri have chosen the charity to benefit from the walk.
“To mark what would have been James’ 18th birthday, we are walking in his memory and hopefully raising a substantial figure for Hope House, our local children's hospice, without whom many families would struggle to cope with a sick child,” said Llinos.
She also revealed that the Across Wales Challenge is on her list of 50 things to do before her 50th birthday next month.

Llinos is no stranger to fundraising as she is chair of the successful Newtown Marie Curie Fundraising Group. The charity provides care and support to people with a terminal illness.
Two years ago, she and her son, Rhodri, successfully tackled the Snowdon Challenge to raise money for the charity.
