Newtown man jailed for 14 years for "sickening" attack

A Newtown man has been jailed for 14 years and four months for a “sickening” attack on an 88-year-old Dolfor woman.

Jeffrey Earp was jailed at Caernarfon Crown Court for the attack on Blanche Rowlands. in June last year.

Earp, 50, had admitted robbery and conspiracy to commit burglary. Two other Newtown men, Keith Grogan, 42, and Carl Barrett, 51, admitted conspiracy to commit burglary and were jailed for three years.

Judge Timothy Petts said the attack was “sickening” adding “You have ruined her life.”

The attack took place at Mrs Rowlands home near Dolfor.

She was beaten with an unknown weapon after being confronted by Earp. Jewellery, including an engagement ring, a gold watch and her late husband’s gold ring was stolen.

Mrs Rowlands was in court with her daughter to hear the case.
