Following his heroic effort at the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast, Forden runner Andy Davies has done us all proud once again by becoming a world champion.

Andy overcame the sapping Aussie heat to finish 11th for Wales in April, and he has made a quick return to top level competition by winning a gruelling world title.

The lecturer at Newtown college won the 18th WMRA/WMA Masters World Mountain Running Championships in Slovenia, leading home a quality international field.

Joking after the event, Andy said: “I know I don’t look over 35 but I am delighted to have won the World Masters!”

The race doesn’t get much tougher. The 10.8km course has a 1,183m climb that finished at 1,640m above sea level.

“That was steep,” he said after winning the 35-50 world title.
