A former car showroom could soon be changed into a light industrial and storage facility after plans were submitted to Powys County Council.

T&K Gallagher Ltd, a provider of utilities engineering services for water, gas, electricity and telecommunications has submitted a planning application for a change of use at the former Philip Paul Cars showroom along Llanidloes Road.

The company behind the plans owns Overlec, which has offices at St David's House in the town and provides overhead electricity supply maintenance and engineering services in the area.

The planning application is to change the use of the site from the showroom into B1, B2 and B8 classes, which includes general industrial and storage.

The site has remained for sale or to let for a number of years since the car dealer moved out of the town.

The plans will go to the county council's planning committee in June. Newtown Town Council will consider the application and make its comments known to the planning committee next week.
