From RAW to result is the theme at the next meeting of Newtown Astronomy Society.

Astrophotographer Mark Illsley will talk about capturing images from space.

“Mark will take us through the imaging journey from the initial RAW photograph to the final resultant image, demonstrating just what can be teased out from images and lifting the lid on the “black art” that is image processing,” said Les Fry of the society.

“Covering deep sky and planetary imaging, Mark’s talk will enable all to physically “get more” from their own astrophotography.”

The meeting will take place at Newtown Scout Hut in Park Lane on Saturday, 12 May at 7pm.

Annual membership fees are £20 per annum (10 meetings per year), with visitor fees at £3.50 per meeting.

Tea or Coffee with biscuits is available at a cost of 50p per cup from the start of the meeting.

Raffle prizes are up for grabs during the main break. Donations gratefully received!

Tony Cook of Aberystwyth University will bring the meeting to a close with his monthly “sky update” feature which includes astro TV listings and events to look out for, along with Member's Observations.

“If you need help with your telescope or advice about getting one please ask colleagues at our meeting,” said Les.

Next month's meeting will be a 'quick' AGM, followed by a Planetarium night with an Astro Bring and Buy sale.
