Newtown's twin town reaches French Cup final

Messages of support and congratulations are being sent to Newtown's twin town where its local football club have reached the finals of the French Cup final against giants Paris St Germain.

The small club at Les Herbiers in France, which a population of just 15,000, beat Chambly in the semi-finals last week to reach the final.

Newtown Twinning Association has already sent a message of congratulations to the the town which has been twinned with Newtown for 21 years.

The differences between Paris St Germain and Les Herbiers couldn't be more further apart.

The league giants have more than €500million to spend, while Les Herbiers has around €2million and capacity for 5,000 fans at its ground.

Exchange visits are held between groups and organisations from both towns regularly.

The final will be staged at Stade de France on Tuesday, 8 May.
