Shoppers and pub-goers are being warned of pickpockets operating in Newtown.

It followed an incident in which a purse was stolen from a bag being worn by a woman at the Elephant and Castle Hotel.

Police believe three offenders were involved in the incident.

The incident happened at around 12noon on 14 March at the hotel. "It is believed that there were three offenders in this instance, two males and one female all working together," said PC David Wilkinson of Newtown Police.

"At the time the purse was stolen the victim was unaware and only realised when they went to get it from their bag.
"These criminals are very opportunistic we encourage the public to know where there valuables are at all times and keep them out of sight."
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Dyfed Powys Police on 101 asking for PC 869 Dave Wilkinson.
