Churchstoke are inching towards the Montgomeryshire Airgun League title, but can they do it with an unblemished record?

With just four matches remaining, Churchstoke are four points clear at the top after their latest win put paid to third-placed Arddleen’s hopes of taking the title.

The tension-filled match featured a mechanical breakdown, fevered mathematical calculations and the narrowest of winning margins as it went down to the last shot of the match. But it was the leaders who remain unbeaten in 14 matches with a 204-203.9 win. A tremendous match which saw Arddleen’s Martin Pearce score the only possible, a 35.2.

Newtown won their mid-table battle against Castle Caereinion, 198.4-196.2, with Jess Corbett leading her team from the front with an excellent 35.3.

In the battle of Crew Green, it was the B team who emerged victorious 197.4-193.9, bringing them into fifth place behind the A team. The A’s opening shooter Ed Kelton shot another possible to add to his impressive total this season (35.3), as did the B’s ever-reliable Joe Hilditch.

Hard-hitting Guilsfield A offered no quarter to six-shooter Forden, winning 200.4-183.4 to remain second in the table and the only side that looks likely to stop Churchstoke’s title charge.

A six-shooter Llanfair Caereinion were undone by Guilsfield B, despite Dai Tom Williams claiming yet another high-scoring possible (35.5).

Five shooters claimed possibles this week – Arddleen’s Martin Pearce (35.2), Edward Kelton of GCA, Jess Corbett of Newtown, CGB’s Joe Hilditch (35.3) and Dai Tom Williams of Llanfair Caereinon (35.5).

Shooter of the week – As the only captain to score a possible this week, Jess Corbett of Newtown takes the honours.

Match of the week – Due to the narrowest possible margin of victory, scintillating atmosphere and the exceptional level of sportsmanship on display at the match, this week sees Arddleen vs. Churchstoke the clear winner.
