Chaos at Newtown after lorry hits Nantoer Bridge

There’s major road and rail disruption in Newtown this morning after another lorry incident at Nantoer Bridge.

Traffic was backing up in both directions when a MyNewtown reader sent us this picture of the vehicle which has clearly struck the bridge and toppled onto its side blocking the Newtown-Llanidloes road.

Traffic is being diverted and Arriva Trains Wales is currently holding back trains until the bridge has been checked for structural damage.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area while train users should contact Arriva for an update before setting off their journey.
