Firefighters came to the rescue of a trapped Newtown midwife this morning.

The service’s 4X4 rural response appliance was called out from Weshpool to help a stranded midwife from a remote location in the Llanfair area.

The midwife was required to attend a birth at the Montgomery County Infirmary at Newtown but was unable to reach her destination because of snowbound conditions

Our 4x4 rural response appliance was mobilised from Welshpool Fire Station to a special service call at 09:44am to the Llanfair area, due to adverse weather and bad driving conditions on high ground. They were sent to collect a midwife who couldn’t travel due to snow,” said a spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire Service.
