Delays to town centre road and crossing improvements

Work resurfacing toads and the construction of two raised pedestrian crossings in Newtown town centre is to take longer following last week's winter weather conditions.

Resurfacing work was completed in Broad Street a week last Sunday, but the snow and ice has delayed the work on the crossings in Back Lane and improvement work on Commercial Street and Shortbridge Street.

"The weather has had some impact but due to the volume of highway works being carried out across the county we can’t give exact dates," said a Powys County Council spokesperson.
"As it stands, the works at Commercial Street and Shortbridge Street are on schedule to be completed in the next two weeks.
"The resurfacing work happening at Back Lane has been halted due to the weather and has been re scheduled for 17 March."
He added: "The majority of the civil works (work on the footways to accommodate the new raised crossings) have been completed and will be closed off until the resurfacing works is completed to maintain safety to the public."

Contractors are on site working on the crossings ahead of the resurfacing work.
