Don't forget roadworks creating new improved pedestrian crossings and road resurfacing work will start in Newtown town centre this weekend.

The works will be taking place on Broad Street, Back Lane, Commercial Street and Shortbridge Street, motorists are being warned.

The majority of the works will be resurfacing works.

The first of the planned works will take place on Sunday, which will see Broad Street closed for one day so that resurfacing works can be carried out.

The works will start at 9am until 5.30pm but machinery will be in and round Newtown from around 8am.

A parking restriction will be in place from the evening of Saturday, February 24 so that the works can be carried out on Broad Street.

Work to construct two raised zebra crossings on Back Lane will start on Monday for one week.  The road will be opening during the works but under traffic light management.

Back Lane will then be closed during the day for three days from Sunday, March 4 for resurfacing works. The closure will be from 9am until 5.30pm and the road will be re-opened for the evenings.

Resurfacing works will then take place on Commercial Street, which will start on Wednesday, March 7 for three days. The daytime closure will be in place from 9am until 5.30pm but the road will be opening overnight.

Shortbridge Street will be closed for four days from Sunday, March 11 for resurfacing works. The road will be closed during the day from 9am to 5pm and will re-open in the evenings.
