The Friends of The Montgomery Canal have confirmed the annual St David's Day walk will be taking in parts of the canal near Newtown.

The walk, which will take place on Sunday, 4 March, will start at 10.30am.

"We will be incorporating part of the Severn Way on a circular walk taking in Freestone Lock, Penarth Weir and Nature Reserve and return," said Freda Davies of the friends.

Members and non-members can meet at the small car park on the right by the Severn Way travelling between Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn on the B4568.

"There will be time for a coffee stop and a photo opportunity close to Freestone Lock during the walk, should you wish to bring a flask," added Freda.

"Sunday lunch is booked at the Abermule Hotel for around 12.30pm and it would be helpful if you could advise should you wish to partake."

Anyone wanting to take part can call Christine Palin on 01938 590039.
