No trains this weekend

Rail disruption will hit travellers planning to use the Cambrian Railway this weekend.

Engineering work upgrading part of the railway between Newtown and Aberywttyh, as reported by MyNewtown last week, means it will close this weekend with a coach service replacing Arriva Train Wales rail services.

Newtown Station Travel, who operate the ticket office at Newtown Railway Station, said: "For customers travelling on Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 February, please note that there will be no trains travelling on the line between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth.

"The service will be replaced by buses between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth.  Normal rail services will operate beyond Shrewsbury and Machynlleth.

"You will need to come and buy your ticket in the normal way before boarding if the ticket office is open."

The engineering work is being undertaken by Network Rail as part of a multi-million scheme upgrading rail tracks to be quieter and smoother.

Predicted journey times are approximately one hour between Newtown and Shrewsbury and 55 minutes between Newtown and Machynlleth.

"This is slower than the train so you will ned to factor this into a journey planning," added Gareth from Newtown Station Travel.
