A local Powys county councillor has been appointed dementia champion for the county.
Cllr Elwyn Vaughan has been appointed to the position by Cllr Rosemarie Harris, Powys County Council Leader.
The role is voluntary but acts as a conduit in relation to raising the profile of matters regarding dementia.
Cllr Vaughan said: “Dementia and the issues surrounding it have increased in profile in recent years. However much more can be done to enhance understanding of the issues and the needs of sufferers and their families.
“This role therefore has an important part to play in raising the profile of matters within the Council and I look forward to assisting the sector in whatever way.
“We want Powys to be an open and equal society with accessibility to all to services within our communities.”
