There are mixed results for local secondary and primary schools in the latest Welsh Government colour coded rankings.

Newtown High School has been placed in amber, while Llanidloes High School is in green - categorised as excellent.

No Montgomeryshire schools entered the "red" coded ranking. The rankings go from green for excellent, through to yellow, amber and then red.

Penygloddfa CP School was the only local primary school to be awarded a green code for excellent, with Abermule, Berriew, Caersws, Hafren, Ladywell Green, Llandinam, Llanidloes, Maesyrhandir, St Mary's, Carno and Llanfair Careinion awarded yellow.

Montgomery and Treowen were placed in amber.

Nationwide, 85.3 per cent of primary schools and 68.3 per cent of secondary schools are in green and yellow categories.
