Newtown launch the second half of their JD Welsh Premier season in good spirits as they target league survival.

Boss Chris Hughes has targeted 35 points as the safety mark as they travel to Llandudno, and he is pleased with how the January window has gone following some smart business.

And he hopes to emulate the heroics of last season when they went nine games unbeaten at this stage to push for the play-offs.

“For us, safety is the first thing we look at, we have 10 games to do that now,” Hughes told the club’s official web site.

“Traditionally the points to survive is around the 33 to 35 mark, so we want to get there as soon as we can, then we can go after that.

“We did well in the second phase last year, and beat Llandudno on the opening day then if I remember right, so we want to do that again tomorrow.

“However they will be strong, a new boss, new players, so it will be tough.”

Halesowen Town striker Ethan Jones joined Callum Roberts and Alex Fletcher as his window recruits to bolster his squad for the run-in.

“We've managed to sign three very young, hungry and energetic lads, which will put us in good stead for the second half of the season,” said Hughes who has the rare luxury of choosing from a full squad in North Wales.
