Storm force gales and heavy rain has caused rail and road problems in and around Newtown overnight and today.

The Cambrian Railway was closed between Newtown and Welshpool after a freight train struck sheds blown on to the railway overnight, while a number of lanes in the area were said to be hazardous after branches fell off trees.

Police have urged motorists to take care today as the weather continues to batter the area.

The Met Office had issued a Yellow "be aware" weather warning which remains in place today.

Services along the Cambrian Railway have returned to normal.
