Newtown Manager Chris Hughes says players may have to leave the club to allow him to bring in new faces in January.

The Robins boss has moved quickly to make his first signing of the window, as Alex Fletcher returned to the club from Stafford Rangers.

One player has already gone the other way with Hughes telling the club's website that Iwan Cartwright has left the club, following three starts and four substitute appearances since joining in the summer.

Hughes also confirmed one or two more January signings are in the pipeline, but it may be the case that others have to go our of the door too. He said: "Without harping on about things, with the resources at the club we have to balance the books.

"We have a good working relationship with the board, and in terms of transfers things have to be right. It might mean that some faces have to leave for others to come in, but some may want to leave to get more football elsewhere.

"Those are the parameters that we have to work in here, and we are aware of that."

Fletcher warmed up the squad last Saturday, and will be eligible to face Bangor City on Friday eveningHughes said the door was always open for the midfielder, who left for Southport in the summer.

Hughes added: "We were disappointed to lose Fletch and the other boys in the summer, but he wanted to go and try his hand somewhere else.

"It hasn't quite worked out for him and we always said the door is open for him here.

"It is a place where he enjoyed his football last season, enjoyed the professionalism here and he did really here. But Fletch knows that we have been in good form recently and he will have to work to get his place in the side.

"We are looking at one or two signings possibly coming in over the next week or so."
